Custom Seed Production
Contract seed production for hybrid and open-pollinated vegetable varieties. Field-supervised, documented, and backed by forty years of production experience in California and internationally.
Contract Growing
Hybrid and open-pollinated vegetable seed crops grown under contract. Field location, isolation distance, and grower selection matched to the specific requirements of each variety.
Quality & Documentation
Roguing, detasseling, field inspection, and harvest supervision are managed directly. Seed lots are tested and documented to meet germination, purity, and moisture specifications.
Production Locations
California production for climate-sensitive crops. International production available through Orsetti's established network for species requiring specific day-length or temperature profiles.
Production contracts built on forty years of field experience
Seed production is where genetics become inventory. A variety that performs in trials produces nothing unless it can be multiplied reliably and at scale. That gap — between a good line and a commercially available lot — is where production contracts matter.
Orsetti has managed production for its own research program since 1985. We apply the same field supervision, isolation protocols, and quality documentation to contract work. Every finished lot is tested before it moves.
Parental lines and finished seed remain the property of the contracting party. Orsetti provides the production infrastructure, management, and quality assurance.

Common questions
What crops do you produce on contract?
We have production experience with processing tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, peppers, carrots, melons, and lettuce. We can discuss other vegetable crops depending on the variety and production requirements.
Do you produce both hybrid and open-pollinated varieties?
Yes. Hybrid production requires controlled pollination and trained field crews. Open-pollinated production follows isolation and rouging protocols appropriate to the crop. Both are supported.
Who owns the parental lines in a custom production contract?
Ownership of parental lines and finished seed is defined in the production contract. We work on a contract basis — the client retains ownership of their proprietary material.
Can you produce CCOF certified organic seed?
Yes. Orsetti is CCOF certified. Organic production contracts follow certification requirements for field history, inputs, and documentation. Contact us to discuss specific needs.
What is the typical lead time for a production contract?
Most contracts are planned one to two seasons in advance depending on crop, production location, and volume. Early engagement is recommended, especially for hybrid crops requiring isolation.
Do you handle phytosanitary documentation for international shipment?
Yes. We coordinate phytosanitary inspection, seed testing, and export documentation required to ship finished seed to international buyers.
