Our Story
Hollister, CA
From San Juan Bautista,
to the world.
Orsetti Seed Company was founded in Hollister, California in 1985. San Benito County has been California's seed country for generations. Warm days, cool nights, and no rain from April through October — seed comes off the vine dry. That matters for purity and viability.
The primary research facility has been in San Juan Bautista from the start. The Central Coast geography is deliberate — varieties evaluated here, under real disease pressure and mechanical harvest conditions, are ready for commercial production anywhere.
The research team and the people who answer your calls are the same small group. That's not a limitation — it's how forty years of field data stays in the room when you're choosing a variety.
The Stakes
Growers can't afford
bad genetics.
Commercial vegetable production runs on tight margins. A failed seed lot doesn't just cost a harvest — it costs contracts, delivery windows, and grower relationships built over years.
San Benito County harvests over 30,000 acres of vegetables annually. Orsetti varieties are evaluated in that context — the same soil, the same marine air cycles, the same disease vectors your crop faces. Not a controlled greenhouse. A working farm.
That discipline, applied across forty years of field notes, is what a catalog you can schedule a harvest around actually looks like.
Built for the field
Every variety is selected for mechanical harvest compatibility and commercial-scale performance — not curated trial results.
Data behind every answer
Technical questions reach our research team directly. The people who answer have trial data going back decades — not a support script.
Forty years of notes
Four decades of San Juan Bautista field data inform every variety recommendation we make.
The Catalog
0 crops.
No filler varieties.
Six commercial crop categories, from processing tomatoes to open-pollinated lettuce. The catalog is narrow on purpose — we carry what we can support, not what fills a price list.
Every variety earns its place through field evaluation at our San Juan Bautista facility. The catalog doesn't grow because something looks promising in a greenhouse.
